How to say 'Cheers' In Irish Gaelic?
I'm going to be getting a tattoo, and it's probably going to be a Celtic cross on my forearm. I wanted the Irish Gaelic translation of the word 'Cheers' inside the base of the cross. I spent about an hour looking it up, but they all seem to literally mean 'Health'. Is there a phrase that means the equivalent of the American 'Cheers'? (ex: when you have a drink, you raise your glass and say 'Cheers')
I just want to make sure I'm getting the right translation, I don't want to look like a dumbass with the wrong word on my arm, haha.
Thanks in advance.
-Patrick
Yeah, it does translate out (literally) to "Health", but "Sláinte" is used in the same manner as "Cheers" is in English.
Go into an Irish pub, raise a glass and say "Sláinte", and chances are, you'll get it in return from plenty of folks.
